Another major milestone in the challenge: The team have now crossed the Mid-Atlantic Ridge! 💪•The Mid-Atlantic ridge is the largest mountain range on the planet, and it's almost entirely underwater! 🤿•The mountain range is an astonishing 1000-1500 km wide, rises a full 3 km above the ocean floor, runs from the Arctic, to the Antarctic, and has a giant trench running along it's centre. 🤯•Where the team are, this trench is the boundary between the African continental plate and the North American continental plate! 😯•The Atlantic ocean actually grows 2.5cm per year - and the source of that growth is this trench moving further apart. As it tears the earth's crust apart, magma boils up quickly solidifying into new rock creating yet more mountain range. 🌋•For the team though, thousands of metres above all this chaos, they carry on pulling their oars, merrily making the way across the ceiling of this vast underwater world. 🚣•Throughout this crossing the team will be raising money for Get A-Head Charitable Trust and Meningitis Now - please donate today at https://lnkd.in/ewFcK9Vg or use the text messaging service:TEXT ROW1 to 70191 to DONATE £10TEXT ROW3 to 70191 to DONATE £30•Lodders Solicitors LLPBromwich Hardy•#thebrightsides #brightsides #oceanrowing #rannoch #atlanticocean #atlanticrow #oceanrow #oceanlife #rowing #rowinglife #atlanticdash #getahead #meningitisnow

The team are dealing with the low pressure system that stands between them and the trade winds...but the winds have built up too much and the team have had to deploy the para-anchor. 🪂•What is a para-anchor? We hear you cry - this image give you an idea! 💡•Essentially we're talking about an underwater parachute - and when the team are experiencing head winds and can't make any progress, they can tie one end of it to the bow, throw the parachute in the water, the parachute sinks, the boat continues being blown in the wrong direction...until the 70 metre long line becomes taut, at which point the parachute 'inflates' with sea water, and slows their drift Eastward dramatically. 🐌•Once it's time to get going again, they have an even longer 95 metre retrieval line that is attached to the crown of the parachute, so that when it is pulled, it collapses the canopy and it can be safely brought back onto the boat. 👌•It looks like they'll stay on para-anchor tonight but tomorrow may be good enough to get going again. 🤞•IMPORTANTLY: their track will look super weird on the tracker whilst they're on para-anchor, do not panic, this is as expected. 👍•Throughout this crossing the team will be raising money for Get A-Head Charitable Trust and Meningitis Now - please donate today at www.thebrightsidesrow.com 🌐•Lodders Solicitors LLPBromwich Hardy•#thebrightsides #brightsides #oceanrowing #rannoch #atlanticocean #atlanticrow #oceanrow #oceanlife #rowing #rowinglife #atlanticdash #getahead #meningitisnow

🎉Today, please join us to commemorate the remarkable legacy of our Founder, Rob Stewart, on what would have been his Forty-fourth Birthday! 🦈✨In honor of his persistent dedication to the Rob Stewart Sharkwater Foundation, your thoughtful, generous $44 gift (or any amount) will be DOUBLED to $88, thanks to the support of an anonymous donor. This commemoration will extend for 44 days through February 8th, 2024, with the goal of raising $4,400 ($8,800). You may prefer a 1-time gift of $44. (or other amount), or recurring monthly at $44.🔍Diving into the deeper meaning and symbolism of the number forty-four, it is associated with strength, stability, abundance, business and building for the future. Forty-four is linked to achievements, hard work, and laying foundations – all of which Rob accomplished and so brilliantly.💪Number four, which makes up forty-four, symbolizes self-expression, trust, patience, determination, focus, a solid foundation, completion, and loyalty. Seeing forty-four can be a sign to pursue your goals, a message of reassurance, or a reminder to build a strong foundation – an inspiration to continue Rob's mission.🌍To reinforce Rob’s mantra on this memorable day: "Conservation is the preservation of human life on earth. And that, above all else, is worth fighting for." Human rights matter for marine conservation because people and nature are inextricably linked. A thriving planet cannot exist with widespread human suffering, and a thriving humanity cannot exist on a dying planet.🌊Together, we're bringing much-needed protections, change, and transformation to deepen our impact for ocean conservation and the preservation of marine life in 2024 and beyond! You + Me = We Can.💙THANK YOU from Team Sharkwater.Click this link to Donate: https://lnkd.in/gWNNFzD4#RememberingRob #SharkwaterLegacy #OceanConservation #DonateNow

Training to row the North Atlantic Ocean in June 2024.

Tom is on the phone to the coastguard in this very short clip. 📞•This was following the discovery that his EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) was ripped from it's socket and had sadly floated away after his recent capsize. 😩•The EPIRB is a unit that is fixed to the outside of the cabin wall, if Tom gets into serious trouble he can press a button on the EPIRB, and even if he does nothing else this will alert the coastguard to his location, and that he may be in trouble. They can then liaise with the land support crew that the EPIRB has registered on it, and begin a rescue operation, if required. 🛟•Some EPIRBs are called 'float free' EPIRBs, that means that they have a hydrostatic system built in that activates when they are submerged to a depth of 1-4 metres. This means the beacon starts transmitting without the user pressing any buttons. Some of them manually activated, and require a button to be pressed. Either way, a powerful capsize could create the kind of forces that will set that EPIRB off accidentally, and with it now floating away Tom is powerless to do anything about it. 🛜•Due to this it was very important that Tom called Falmouth Coastguard to advise them of the EPIRB details so that if they received a distress signal from it, they can safely ignore it. 👍•Importantly, Tom has a spare EPIRB, which has a different Hex ID (a 15-digit alphanumeric code, completely unique to each device), and this one will NOT be ignored should he actually need to use it. 👌•Remember, Tom is rowing the Atlantic to raise money and awareness for Mind - please donate to this brilliant cause today at https://lnkd.in/e55nzqnz 🌐•A huge thank you to all of Tom's sponsors who have helped make this amazing challenge possible:-Gold sponsors:Everlast GymsTritax SymmetryTritax Big Box REIT plc-Silver sponsors:BOOM POWER-Bronze sponsors:Immobilier du Pont - Le ChâbleHotel Farinet Verbier•#mindoarmatter #atlanticrow #atlantic #oceanrow #mind #mindcharity #mentalhealth #Tritaxbigbox

As we witness the devastating floods affecting Rio Grande do Sul, it's heart-wrenching to see the scale of impact on our communities. This catastrophic event has now been marked as the largest flood in the state's history. More than 332 municipalities have been affected, over 15,000 people are sheltered in emergency accommodations, and upwards of 80,000 are displaced. Tragically, we've lost 66 lives, and more than 100 individuals are still missing.Despite these grim figures and challenging weather forecasts that predict more rain, the resilience of our people shines bright. It's during these times that we must come together to support those in dire need. Companies and individuals can contribute to recovery efforts by donating money through the official government PIX account. Every contribution, no matter its size, can make a significant difference.Let us stand together in solidarity to rebuild and support every affected soul in Rio Grande do Sul. Hope is our strongest ally, and together, we can weather this storm.#RioGrandeDoSul #FloodRelief #Solidarity #CommunitySupport
